Australia''s Lentil Exports Jump 61% in February; Chickpea Exports See Decline

Mumbai, 9 April (Commoditiescontrol) : Australia's chickpea and lentil exports experienced contrasting trends in February 2024, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). While chickpea exports declined compared to the previous year, lentil exports saw a significant increase.


Lentil Exports Surge Lentil exports surged by 61% in February 2024, reaching 128,620 tonnes compared to 80,134 tonnes in January. However, this is still lower than the record 196,224 tonnes exported in February 2023. India remained the largest market for lentils (68,431 tonnes), followed by Pakistan (28,383 tonnes) and Sri Lanka (14,949 tonnes).

Chickpea Exports Decline


Chickpea exports in February 2024 totaled 53,818 tonnes, up 44% from January shipments. However, this figure is notably lower than the 78,213 tonnes exported in February 2023. Pakistan was the primary destination for Australian chickpeas (22,690 tonnes), followed by the United Arab Emirates (21,436 tonnes) and Bangladesh (3,671 tonnes).
