Soy Bean Oil saw modest gains in open interest as on week ended 2 February 2016. Overall market was net short. Additions to both short and long positions were seen with almost the same intensity with short positions being marginally ahead.

Managed money was also net long in the market. However, both long and short positions were added in the old crop futures. New crop futures saw addition to long positions and reduction of short positions. Reduction in calendar spread positions was witnessed.

Outlook
Barring the 4 large traders who have larger short positions mostly belonging to the hedger’s category, the rest of the market is predominantly long. Hence we would expect prices to increase in the coming weeks.
