Mumbai, August 7 (Commoditiescontrol): According to a recent release from the Ministry of Agriculture, the acreage dedicated to Tur cultivation currently stands at 37.4 lakh hectares. This reflects a decrease of 3.2%, largely due to the slow pace of sowing activity, as previously reported by the government.
However, fresh ground reports present a slightly different picture. Based on these updates, there's anticipation that Tur acreage will see a growth of around 5-6% this Kharif season. This suggests that the data from the Ministry of Agriculture may undergo an upward revision in the upcoming weeks. This revised forecast is primarily because of expanded cultivation activities observed in key states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Regarding weather conditions, most major Tur-growing districts have reported satisfactory rainfall over the past week. However, a few districts, namely Jalna, Beed, and Hingoli, have been exceptions, receiving below-normal rain since the onset of the monsoon season. On a brighter note, sowing activities are nearly finished in most growing states, and according to agricultural experts, the crop conditions appear promising so far. The Tur crop is currently in its vegetative or early stages of growth.

Experts indicate that major crop-growing regions in Vidarbha, such as Akola, Buldhana, Wardha, and Amravati, need more rainfall. While the current conditions of the crops in these areas are satisfactory, further rain is essential for the Tur crop's optimal growth.
